A new radio station aimed at LGBT+ people in Scotland is launching a consultation to hear from listeners today.
Pride Radio Scotland is testing its broadcast on DAB in Glasgow and online on the Pride World Media app and now is your time to get involved!
The station is part of the Pride Community Network and will partner in Scotland with Pink Saltire, the Scottish LGBT community charity. Special broadcasts have already featured Trans Pride Scotland live from Dundee and the team behind Oban Pride, launching this month.
Pride Radio Scotland will broadcast 24hrs a day, 7 days a week with a broad range of presenters from Scotland and will tap into the wealth of experience and talent from the other Pride World Media stations run by the organisation.
Peter Darrant, Chief Executive of Pride Community Network, said:
“We are delighted to be bringing a fresh new sound to the airwaves with the launch of Pride Radio Scotland. This unique station, which will be available online and DAB, will represent the vibrant and diverse LGBT+ communities throughout Scotland. Working with our partner, Pink Saltire, we will be producing an exciting schedule of programmes packed with news, events and stories relevant to a Scottish audience as well as playing great music.”
“At the heart of the station is the LGBT+ community and over the next few weeks and months we’ll be reaching out to our new audience to create a station, a sound, that truly reflects their tastes, lifestyle and interests.”
“The feedback we’ve already received has been incredible and we can’t wait to start broadcasting out and proud across Scotland!”
Pride Community Network recently opened a dedicated multi-media LGBT Hub in the North East of England, complete with office space, tv studio, cinema room, radio studios and the largest green screen facility in the region. The Pride Media Centre has over 10,000 sq ft of space for LGBT+ businesses, organisations and individuals to grow their creativity and has already welcomed several companies as well as Northern Pride to take up residency.
Welcoming the consultation and the announcement of the new partnership, Stuart Duffy, Founder of Pink Saltire, said:
“We’re excited to be working with Peter and the team at Pride Community Network to bring a brand new sound to Scotland! We’ve demonstrated over the past few years with our online news hub at pinksaltire.com that people want to hear what’s going on in the LGBT community in Scotland. We’ve had over 1.6million digital impressions in the last year alone and people from all over the world visit our website which is packed with community news.”
“Expanding into the radio sector has always been a key aim of our charity and so this partnership, bringing the technical expertise from leading industry professionals at Pride Radio together with our extensive community knowledge built up over the last few years, will mean this station has the best foundation to grow and develop.”
“We want to hear what you expect from an LGBT radio station to help us build a service which truly reflects the diverse queer community across Scotland – it’s time to have your say and get involved!”
