LEAP Sports hugely successful ‘Festival Fortnight’ is back for 2019 and organisers are calling individuals, groups and organisations to run an event this year.
The festival, now in it’s 7th year, runs from 17th to 30th June and the charity is keen to have an even wider selection of events this year, including recreational, cultural, social and academic events.
There are even some small grants available to organisers to help with the costs of putting on your event!
Festival Fortnight aims to increase the visibility and participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people in Scottish sport. Organisations who have offered events in previous years have experienced a range of benefits, including attracting new LGBT+ members, increasing awareness of issues for LGBT+ people in sport or simply celebrating LGBT+ participation and identity!
In 2018, the festival saw 83 events organised across 44 different partnerships with almost 1,000 participants. Many of these people reported an increase in confidence to try something new and events offered a pathway into regular participation in new sports or activities.
The deadline for listing your event for the 2019 Festival Fortnight, and for grant applications, is 5pm on 16th April – so what are you waiting for!
If you’d like to run an event, check out the Partner Handbook that the team have produced here.
