Scottish public sector organisations have been ranked in the list of the Top 100 LGBT employers across the UK, according to new research by Stonewall.
Skills Development Scotland were the highest ranked Scottish organisation, at number 18. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service were ranked 51st, The Scottish Government were ranked 72nd and Golden Jubilee Hospital at 37th.
Law firm Pinsent Masons were ranked 1st across the UK. The Welsh Government were listed at number 8.
A record 445 businesses and organisations submitted details on their LGBT-inclusive policies and work across 10 key business areas, including how they engage with suppliers, their workforce and the wider community to advance LGBT equality.
Speaking to The National, a spokesperson for the Scottish Government said:
“LGBTI equality and inclusion are at the heart of our ambition to be a world-leading, diverse employer where people can be themselves at work.”
“Stonewall’s index is a robust measure of whether out policies, practices and culture are delivering on our ambitions and we are delighted to be recognised as one of the UK’s Top 100 LGBT employers.”
Employers with a large Scottish employment base, such as Vodafone and Barclays, also faired well in the index.
Colleges and universities were also well represented, with almost one-fifth of the Top 100 being in this category, including City of Glasgow College at number 81.
