A new LGBT+ Pride event has been confirmed for the Dumfries & Galloway region, with a date set for 15th September 2018.
The event, named DG Pride, will take place at the Midsteeple and Planestanes with a stage show that will showcase the creative talents from all over the region.
The event has been in the planning for a year and organisers were recently awarded charitable status. DG Pride Chair, Justin Thomas, told us:
“This is an event for everyone! We want to show that D&G is unique in that it is still a community and we are showing that our future generations see the world very differently. To our young people, everyone is equal and that should be celebrated loudly and colourfully!”
The Dumfries event joins a record-breaking calendar of Prides happening in Scotland in 2018, with 9 now confirmed and plans for a tenth. The DG Pride team say there’s still plenty of time to get involved though, with Volunteer Coordinator, Lee Toti saying:
“We have a lot of positions available to anyone who wants to get involved – from performing to staging, producing to event stewards, we have opportunities! We will be presenting our volunteer roles on our social media as well as inviting all those interested to a special event coming up soon!”
Holding a Pride event can be expensive and takes cooperation with a number of agencies in the local area, including Police, Licensing and local authority. Commenting on the progress made with local partners in Dumfries, Justin Thomas said:
“A huge thank you to D&G Council for their support with this – they’ve been completely on board since our first meeting last year. They’ve made life very easy for us to get this exciting brand new festival started.”
DG Pride will be held on Saturday 15th September 2018 – you can keep up to date with all the latest news from the organisers over at their Facebook page here, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
