Organisers have confirmed Dundee Pride will go ahead at City Square on Saturday 22nd September, the first time an event like this has been held in the city.

As well as a march through the city centre, the event will feature live entertainment, including local bands and acts, with stalls and displays from LGBT organisations.

The voluntary team have been working hard behind the scenes with Dundee City Council to bring the first event to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality to the city.

Pride Co-Chair, Tommy Small, said:

“We are delighted to finally confirm the date and venue for our big event, bringing Pride to Dundee for the first time! It’s a huge year for the city and we’re excited to have the V&A opening just a few days before Pride – it’ll certainly be a busy week for Dundee!”

Dundee Pride attracted nearly 40 volunteers after a community consultation organised by Pink Saltire and Dundee City Council in October.  The group have now formed a voluntary organisation and hope to achieve charity status in the next few weeks.

Local LGBT activist and leading the Logistics team at Pride is Lee Copland, who said:

“I’m so proud to be working with an amazing team of volunteers to bring Dundee it’s first Pride event.  Organising all the logistics and permissions for Pride involves creating new partnerships from scratch and we’re very lucky to have such a supportive local authority and partners who are helping make this event the success I know it will be.”

Dundee Pride will be a free event and is open to everyone, including children and families. The group have regular open meetings for the community to come along and get involved, called ‘Monthly Blethers’.
