NEW DOCUMENTARY EXPLORES LGBT STIGMA IN SCOTTISH SPORT

A new short documentary is exploring issues of stigma and discrimination in Scottish sport which LGBT+ people continue to face.

The film, titled ‘Playing with Pride’ by Kendal Dick, explores the lived experiences of sports people, including the first out gay wrestler, Christopher Saynt.

Inclusive education in all schools and tackling discriminatory attitudes from a young age are outlined as some of the important steps needed to help tackle ongoing perceived and experienced stigma and homophobia in sport.

The documentary comes after Equality Network announced in 2017 that more football clubs in Scotland had signed up to its LGBT Sports Charter, committing clubs and governing bodies to practical steps to help them tackle discriminatory behaviour in sport.
